Alder punishes lacklustre Boksburg

Masterclass performance sinks local premier league outfit.

Kempton Park batsman Jarred Alder took advantage of Boksburg’s lacklustre showing with the bat to steer his side to a comfortable nine-wicket bonus point win in the two sides’ Premier League clash in Kempton Park on Sunday, January 14.

With the home side asked to beat 134 runs for the win, it didn’t take long for Alder show to all but end the match as a contest.

The hitter produced a masterclass as his unbeaten 70 combined with Rynd van der Merwe’s 16 not out to put an early end to the match, securing the win in only 23.4 overs.

The hosts conceded a single wicket in Alder’s opening partner Wesley Marshall, who together with Alder showed their side’s menacing intention early on.

As good as Kempton were, it was a disappointing all-round performance by Boksburg, whose 134 total was reached in 40.5 overs.

Half of their batting line-up were victims of catches. Marshall scooped two catches while teammates Jurie Snyman, Brandon Harwood and captain Johan Fourie got one each.

Chris Opperman finished as Boksburg’s top scorer with 30 runs, while skipper Adam Forbes was uncharacteristically dismissed for two runs.

Forbes’ opposite number, Fourie, finished with 2/10 including a single maiden in five overs. He was joined by teammate Ned Felane in the brace category as he finished with 2/27 with one maiden in nine overs. – @SabeloBoksburg
