EWC crowns four new champs

Four new champions were crowned as Extreme Warriors Championship (EWC) held its ultimate event for the year at Club La Boom in Boksburg on Saturday evening, December 9.

In a bout dubbed ‘fight of the night’ by EWC president Patrick Luindula, Emanuel Kalonji and Elvis Ngwala gave onlookers their money’s worth as they traded leather for five rounds with neither one giving an inch. With the decision handed to the officials to make, it was Ngwala who tipped the judges’ scales to be crowned the new EWC welterweight champion.

The pre-ultimate bout of the night was a tactical wrestling display between Stevo Law and Frank Cato, and it was no surprise when the winner was decided via submission.

Following the first round in which each fighter sought the upper hand on the mat, Cato slipped and fell into Law’s rear naked choke trap, leaving him with no choice but to tap.

Elsewhere, Joshwyn Wenke became the new EWC featherweight champion via TKO decision following a barrage of uncontested strikes in round three against Cobus Pelser.

In the evening’s first title bout, all the judges agreed that Julio Plaatjies was too good for Aldo Booysen as the former was announced the new EWC flyweight king via unanimous decision.

Earlier in the evening, Boksburg’s Billy Oosthuizen, fighting out of the Pitbull Dojo, made easy work of Pakamiso Dumiso. The member of the combat sport-rich Oosthuizen family blitzed to victory after just half a minute into the opening round.

“2018 promises to be a big year for this new promotion that has everyone talking, with 10 events scheduled for the new year,” EWC founder Luindula announced afterwards. “EWC returns on the 24th of February (EWC 7) with bantamweight, middleweight, light-heavyweight and heavyweight champions title available for contention.”

EWC was founded by Luindula and debuted early this year.

Luindula added that they are looking for sponsors to enable the promotion to build a new cage and acquire a bigger venue.
