A helping hand to support Vita Nova
Under His Covering, an NGO operating out of Benoni, recently held a Vita Nova Miss and Mr Pageant.
This event was made possible with the assistance of Vogue Models, which is based in Boksburg.
Carike Pretorius, of Under His Covering, said they thought it was a good idea to reach out to Vita Nova, which provides vital care to those with physical and mental disabilities, by holding a fund-raiser which took the shape of a pageant coinciding with a fun day.
Vita Nova has been in the news of late as it faces an uncertain financial future.
The fun day included a fun walk, while the disabled models hit the runway. Some did so in wheelchairs.
On the day Simone du Toit, from Vogue Models East Rand, attended with accompanying models, but many other model also attended the event.
According to Pretorius, Vogue Models were instrumental in sharing expertise with those at Vita Nova who wanted a moment in the sun on the catwalk.
“Our hearts go out to this cause because is all about giving men, women and children the opportunity to stand up and testify. It is about reaching out far beyond and wide, changing, helping and supporting those who believe. It is about hope and people in need,” said Pretorius.
“The children brought the models to tears. What makes children and people with special needs and disabilities happy is completely different to what makes us happy. The children come alive when you look into their eyes.”
