Alleged murderer to appear in High Court

The accused in the kidnapping, rape and murder of 10-year-old Chrisainya June Nikita Carelse, of Ramaphosa Informal Settlement, made his first appearance in the Johannesburg High Court on November 24.

The child’s body was found in a veld next to the ZZC Church in Elsburg Road at about 6.50am on April 1.

She was half naked, lying on her back and had a large cement block on her chest. Her body and face were covered in blood.

The little girl had sustained stab wounds to her neck and private parts, and had been raped.

It was determined that her cause of death was immediate – a blunt force head injury with contributory sharp force injuries.

Arrest

Three days later, a special investigative team from the Reiger Park Crime Intelligence Unit arrested Ansley Johnson (18), of Driehoek, Germiston.

He was released due to lack of evidence but was rearrested on July 27 when police positively linked him to the crime through forensic evidence.

Johnson first appeared in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on July 31 and at his appearance on August 4, he was released on R2 000 bail.

On November 20, Johnson was informed by Boksburg magistrate Emmanuel Magampa that the Department of Public Prosecutions had reached the decision to arraign him for trial in the Johannesburg High Court on charges of kidnapping, rape and murder.

Sleeping

The state will set out to prove that on the evening of March 31, Chrisainya spent the night at her grandmother’s house, a two-roomed shack in Ramaphosa, just a few shacks from where Johnson lived at the time of the incident.

Johnson was reportedly a friend of the family and knew the little girl well.

It is alleged Johnson visited the grandmother that evening and at some stage invited her to his shack to drink. The grandmother accompanied him, leaving a sleeping Chrisainya alone in the shack.

At about 12.50am on the morning of April 1, Johnson is said to have accompanied the grandmother back to her shack. Some time later he allegedly took Chrisainya from the shack to an open veld in Elsburg Road where he raped and murdered her.

During a search of Johnson’s home on April 4, a bloodstained shirt belonging to him was seized by the police.

This blood is what led to his rearrest on July 27, as a forensic laboratory had determined Chrisainya’s blood was on the shirt.
