Boksburg blunt Spurs’ attack

Bouncing back from two consecutive heavy defeats against United and Bedfordview, Adam Forbes and the Boksburg Cricket Club posted an impressive win in their Eastern Cricket Premier League encounter with Actonville Spurs.

The Prince George Park outfit returned to winning ways in style as they collected maximum points along with a bonus point from their win at home on Sunday, November 12.

With resistant batting coming scarce and far between during Spurs’ batting innings, the home side picked apart the visitors’ attack to deny them rhythm throughout their innings.

Top order batsman Saahil Khan knocked 33 followed by a lengthy wait for another significant contribution from Khan’s teammate Yousuf Balballia with 41. CJ van der Walt added 35 before Spurs were knocked over for a vulnerable 141, thanks to Josh Thomas’ hat-trick of wickets and respective doubles from Larno Botha and Calvin Birnie.

Ahkter Rasul kick-started the home side’s batting in the second innings with 40 runs while captain Forbes knocked 30 to set the tone for a successful run chase.

Gerhard Booysen added 26 and stalwart John Haywood produced 34 as the home side looked to finish the job.

Botha and Birnie both finished unbeaten as the home side’s 142/6 handed them a comfortable four-wicket win.

The season’s first half culminates on December 3.
