Four killed in Boksburg in another blood-drenched weekend

Police are investigating four cases of murder that happened over the weekend in Boksburg in separate incidents.

The first incident was reported in Reiger Park, where a man, identified as 31-year-old Blayton Alberts, was shot dead.

Police officers arrived on the scene in Stanbury Crescent, at about 8pm on Friday, November 10, and found the deceased lying in a pool of blood. He had suffered one gunshot wound to his right hand, another to the head and the third next to his ear.

“The deceased was carrying a small transparent plastic bag containing the drug Cat,” said Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson Sgt Mashudu Phathela.

The second killing occurred on Saturday, November 11, in Joe Slovo informal settlement.

A 34-year-old man, identified as Dyani Skhumbuzo, was shot twice in the head in his shack. He died on the scene. Police confirmed they found five spent cartridges and two projectiles on the scene.

“It’s alleged that the deceased was earlier involved in a fight with another man inside a tavern. During the fight, they apparently stabbed each other.”

No arrests have been made in connection with the two murders. Police are appealing to anyone who might have witnessed both incidents to contact them on 011 916 7000 or call 10111.

The Reiger Park SAPS station commander, Col Elsie Mashinini, urged the community to continue to be the eyes and ears of the police.

The third killing happened outside Good-Luck tavern on Main Reef Road, Lilianton, opposite Angelo informal settlement, during the early hours of Sunday, November 12.

According to Boksburg SAPS spokesperson Sgt Cebisa Maseko, a man who was working as a security guard at the tavern died after he was shot multiple times by a gunman who then fled the scene.

“The motive for the shooting remains unclear at this stage, but Boksburg North police are investigating the matter,” said Maseko.

The fourth killing took place in Angelo informal settlement, where a man aged 39 died after he was stabbed 16 times during what appears to be a robbery on Saturday night, November 11.

“The man was reportedly inside his shack with his wife before he was killed. His phone rang and he went outside the shack and stood in the yard speaking to his brother over the phone. That was the last time his wife saw him alive.

“His partially naked body was later found outside the shack. His trousers, cellphone, takkies and other personal belongings were stolen,” said Maseko.

Boksburg police are investigating a murder case and appeal to members of the public to come forward with information that may lead to the arrests of those involved.

There have been more 107 murders reported in Boksburg, including Dawn Park, during the 2016/2017 financial year, according to the SAPS crime stats.

The figures exclude the recent killings which occurred in the area during the past few weeks.

Precinct murders according to the stats are as follows:

Boksburg 37; Boksburg North 9; Dawn Park 37; Reiger Park 24.
