Boksburg cricket captain looks forward to challenges of new season

Boksburg Cricket Club skipper and opening batsman Adam Forbes talks to the Advertiser about the season ahead.

The Prince George Park outfit opened their campaign against Springs Old Boys in a T20 clash on Sunday, October 1.

This will be Forbes’ first time being captain for a full season. He took over the reins from Len Meyer in January.

What are the team’s targets this season?

To remain in the premier league and compete in the top five of the table. We are a very young side, with players having not played at this level it can be very daunting to come out against the top sides and “taste” what they dish out on the field.

What do you as a captain and on behalf of the team want to do differently this season compared to last season?

It’s hard to say, but to compete against the stronger prem sides would be an accomplishment for us. The big clubs continue to get stronger each season, something the union needs to look at. We struggle to attract marque players as don’t have the finances to attract players like other clubs.

Are there any new faces in the team?

We managed to get some stability in our batting line-up with Bryce Parsons joining us. Also Josh Thomas has moved over from Benoni to head up our bowling attack. Michael Hagar has also joined us from Bedfordview which will add value in the all-rounder department.

Are there any players who have left this past off-season?

Our wicket-keeper, Michael Weldon.

You had some really good performances towards the end of last season and at times carried the team – how do you plan on maintaining that sort of form?

With the correct mind-set and more solid batting around me now, I’m comfortable to maintain my role up front with the team batting around me.

How does being captain impact your game?

Captaincy is easy with a team behind you. I’m lucky to have my team back me at a young age.

Why are you looking forward to the season?

New challenges, new faces, and a sport I love to play at the highest level. – @SabeloBoksburg
