Thieves steal detective’s car battery, try to sell it to cop
The following arrests were recently made in Boksburg:
* Two men were arrested after they allegedly forced their way into the yard of the Boksburg Detective Branch offices, in Commissioner Street, and stole a car radio and a battery from an officer’s car.
According to Boksburg SAPS spokesperson Sgt Cebisa Maseko, the thieves cut the fence to gain entry and broke into the car on Tuesday, August 22.
Boksburg SAPS’ Det Sgt Calvin Mphaphuli arrested the suspects when they approached him along the street and tried to sell the battery to him.
They were expected to appear in court on August 23.
* The Boksburg SAPS’ Det Sgt Calvin Mphaphuli arrested a Nigerian national suspected of buying stolen goods and exchanging drugs for stolen goods with thieves.
He was found in possession of drugs and suspected stolen goods, including jewellery, in Johannesburg, on August 22. It is believed that the gang of four men recently arrested in connection with the rash of house robberies in Boksburg are some of his clients.
The suspect was expected to appear in court on Monday, August 28, for a formal bail application.
Boksburg SAPS spokesperson Sgt Cebisa Maseko called on law-abiding citizens to refrain from buying stolen goods, because the law stipulates that any person who buys stolen goods is as guilty as the person who stole the goods – and harsh punishment will apply to both the buyer and the thief.
The Boksburg police would like to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious at either of the locations between the given times or who are suspicious about any items they are offered for sale that match the descriptions of the stolen items mentioned above.
