Countdown begins to Medieval Sport Festival

In less than a week, Boksburg will jump back in time with its first Medieval Sport Festival, which takes place at Wild Waters on August 26, from 9am.

The festival is a non-profit event. The two main beneficiaries of the event are Women and Men Against Child Abuse and The Pen is Mightier than the Sword Foundation.

The aim is to collect new and used stationery and jeans for less fortunate school-going children.

A drop-off point will be at the main entrance.

Other charity organisations also stand to benefit from the festival.

‘Medievals’ can look forward to a fun-filled programme.

Not to be missed is the Medieval Best Dressed Adult and Child competition at 2pm – great prizes are up for grabs.

Participants can enter four categories:

1. Five years and under.

2. Six to ten years.

3. 11 to 17 years.

4. Adults.

Other activities taking place throughout the day include an archery demonstration, maypole and Celtic dancing show, fight-a-knight demonstration and participation, and much more.

You can take part in the medieval sports, too (archery, toss the caber, horse shoe and tug-of-war). There are prizes for the best achievements.

Participants can buy tickets to the sports on the day.

There will be stalls selling medieval items. The gates close at 5pm, just after the belly dancing and fire breathing show. Tickets to the festival are available online (www.quicket.co.za) and at the gate.

Come early because entry will only be allowed to the first 3 000 people!

From 6.30pm to 10pm the organisers are also hosting a banquet in true medieval style. There are only three tables left for this sumptuous experience.

Free parking will be available and festival goers are requested to tip the stable keepers (car-guards) who will be protecting the stable (parking area), as part of their gift to charity.

So, dress up for the occasion and come fight a knight!
