Rising Atlasville tennis ace serves a hat-trick

Atlasville resident Arron van Eck made an accolades sweep during the Growth Point Tennis Tournament held at the Gauteng East Complex in Lakeside, Benoni.

The nine-year-old was on the winning side of the boys u-10 singles, doubles and mixed doubles matches at the event held between July 10 and 17.

He partnered with Arjun Bajwa of Gauteng Central in the doubles event and Marize’ van Rooyen of Limpopo in mixed doubles.

This is one of the eight events that make up the Tennis South Africa Junior National Series.

Gauteng East President Ken Smith said: “The tournament was of a high standard and well supported by players coming from all corners of South Africa, including Cape Town and George.

“Gauteng East is very proud of Arron for being a triple winner, this is a very difficult feat to achieve.

“Junior tournament tennis is thriving in South Africa, but our main goal is to get school and club tennis thriving as well.”

Van Eck represents the Gauteng East provincial team. The Rafael Nadal admirer said it felt nice being crowned a triple champion and that he’s excited and happy.
