Two suspected car jammers arrested, stolen goods recovered

Boksburg North SAPS, in cooperation with members of the K9 Unit, arrested a suspect on suspicion of theft out of a motor vehicle, the possession of car jamming devices and the possession of suspected stolen property, on Friday, July 7.

A second suspect was arrested in Soweto, on Sunday, July 9.

The complainant, who lives in Cape Town, parked his vehicle at East Rand Value Mall, in Rietfontein Road on July 7.

When he returned a few minutes later he found his car had been broken into.

“The rear right window was broken and his bag, which had his laptop, tablets, passport, ID and other valuables inside, had been stolen,” said the Boksburg North SAPS communication officer, Capt Juanita Coetzer.

The police were contacted and the complainant opened a case of theft out of a motor vehicle.

A few hours later, K9 members spotted a suspicious white VW Polo.

“The vehicle sped off when the driver saw the police,” said Coetzer.

The K9 members continued their search for the vehicle and found it at a petrol station in North Rand Road.

“The driver pretended the vehicle was overheating as he had the bonnet open,” explained Coetzer.

“When the police approached the vehicle one suspect ran away and the other was arrested.”

The second suspect was, however, arrested in Soweto on Sunday.

When police searched the VW Polo they found three luggage bags inside.

One bag contained a laptop, tablets, passports and other loose items, including car jamming devices and various car keys, believed to be stolen.

The items were positively identified by the complainant whose vehicle was broken into at East Rand Value Mall and by a second complainant, Const Naidoo, whose vehicle had also been broken into.

K9 members Sgt Governder, Sgt Bambo and Sgt Phangani are commended for a job well done.
