A narrow escape for Springbok centre

Springbok and Lions centre Rohan Janse van Rensburg (22), his girlfriend Anzelle von Staden (23) and his younger brother Runan Venter (20) were held at gunpoint in an armed robbery at his home in The Oaks Golf Estate, Lillianton, on Thursday night, April 27.

The trio was inside the house watching a movie when three armed men entered the property.

According to the Boksburg North SAPS communications officer, Capt Juanita Coetzer, the one was armed with a gun and the others were carrying screwdrivers.

The suspects ordered them to keep quiet.

Apparently, one of the men was about to rape Janse van Rensburg’s girlfriend but backed off when he started praying loudly.

Runan Venter posted this picture on Instagram on Friday in which he confirmed the incident and said that they were thankful to be safe.

“He asked the suspects to leave his loved ones and that he would drive them to where they wanted to be,” said Coetzer.

The suspects tied up Venter and von Staden with shoelaces and escorted Janse van Rensburg to the bedroom, where they demanded money and other goods.

With a cellphone, three computers, a TV, R40 000 and his clothes, Janse van Rensburg dropped off the suspects at Delmore Gardens.

Janse van Rensburg returned home safely hours later.

No one was injured.

A case of house robbery is under investigation.
