Surrounded by relatives and friends, Chrisania‘s great-grandmother, Maria Carelse, said the family is deeply shocked, saddened and numbed by the gruesome death of their daughter.
“This is a horrendous thing to happen to a child. We’re still hurting … our beautiful daughter is no longer with us and we already miss her terribly,” said the sobbing Carelse.
Carelse described the Grade Five Goede Hoop Primary School child as an amazing child who respected everyone.
Chrisania was killed and her body dumped in the veld next to the ZCC Church on Elsburg Road.
A special investigative team of the Reiger Park Crime Intelligence Unit has since arrested an 18-year-old man believed to have killed the 10-year-old Chrisania.
According to Samantha Carelse, Chrisania’ s mother, the arrested man is a friend of her brothers. He used to visit the family often and knew the deceased very well.
