Foundation harbours a vision to create an environment free of unemployment, inequality

Sekela Thekga Foundation hosted the Human Rights Day fundraising event in Dawn Park, on March 21.

The foundation was established last year in August with a vision to create an environment free of poverty, unemployment and inequality.

The event aimed at raising funds for orphans, child headed households and needy learners from local schools in Boksburg.

Approximately 40 children from the Mpumelelo Day Care Centre and Villa Liza Primary School benefited from the cause.

The two schools were the first beneficiaries to receive clothing from the foundation.

Simanga Kampembe, Sekela Thekga Foundation chairperson, said: “The event was successful, I am glad we managed to pull it off with the help of our sponsors.

“My team and I had a short time to organise this event but looking at the positive outcome it’s like we started planning long ago. We thank Eris Properties, Dawn Park Butchery and all our sponsors who assisted us in this worthy cause.”

The foundation is also planning to donate to needy learners at Villa Liza Primary School, Villa Liza Secondary School, Thulasizwe Primary School, Windmill Park Primary and Windmill Park Secondary School.

“Our only challenge now is getting land where we can run our programmes from, in order to change lives,” Kampembe said.

The foundation’s programmes include welfare and humanitarian, education and development, sport, arts and culture, health, conservation of environment, land and housing.

The foundation is appealing to the public for donations in the form of office equipment, office furniture and a container to be used as an office and storage.

Anyone who would like to donate may contact Kampembe on 071 859 1612 or Nosakhe Gaba on 083 368 7497.
