Owls sharpen claws for Peregrine League

The Boksburg Rugby Club will deem anything less than being crowned Peregrine League champions as being an unsuccessful campaign.

This is according to the Owls’ head coach, Marcell Fourie.

The Prince George Park outfit, who are currently involved in the annual pre-season tournament, the Assupol League, are hard at training amid the new rugby season.

“The goal this season is to try and get in the final and win, it’s that simple,” said the mentor.

“That being said, we want to first get back on track and build properly. You have to build before you can dominate.”

As per the norm in team sports, the Owls have rung a few changes to both the first team squad and management during the post season.

The team has added some extra muscle, with no less than 10 players joining the fray ahead of the new campaign.

The team has also been boosted with the inclusion of former University of Johannesburg U-21 coach and director of rugby at Hoërskool Oosterlig, Jaco Smit, as assistant coach.

Furthermore, veteran front-rower Travis Howell has past the captaincy torch to former Sharks U-19 and 21 loose forward Kyle Lewis, who has been selected as the new incumbent skipper.

Fourie concluded his soliloquy by saying he is looking forward to the kick-off of the league because that will show him and the rest of the management team where the side can improve.
