Boksburg Baptist Church helps the poor

The Boksburg Baptist Church in Market Street continues to care for the needy of the city.

Church initiatives include a soup kitchen and selling second-hand clothes at very affordable prices .

The soup kitchen is run every Friday from 4pm on their premises.

Jennifer Bennett, who helps run the feeding scheme, said they are very grateful to AIB Bakery, which donates the bread.

The soup is made by members of the congregation, to provide a nourishing meal.

Before serving the soup, church members offer an encouraging message and prayer.

The second-hand clothes sales take place at the church every first Saturday of the month. It is held between 9am and 12.30pm.

Bennett said the clothes are in good condition.

The Boksburg Baptist Church runs a second-hand clothes sale every first Saturday of the month.

“Some people re-sell the clothes, but the church is happy with this as it creates an income for somebody.”

Some of the proceeds from the sale of the clothes goes to the Baptist Mission Department, where it is used as required, or it is used to buy food parcels, which are then handed out to needy church families or to destitute families in the community.

A boerewors sale helps to generate funds in aid of Boksburg’s poor.

In addition, a boerewors fund-raising sale is held every first Saturday of the month at the same time as the clothes sale.
