The police said that the woman was brutally attacked, allegedly by a Sotho-speaking man, in Angelo informal settlement during the early hours of Saturday, January 28.
The victim and her friend were on their way home from a nearby tavern when the man accosted them and began assaulting the friend.
The friend tried to fight off the attacker but he knocked her to the ground.
He then stabbed the other woman in the face and dragged her into the nearby bushes where he allegedly raped her and repeatedly stabbed her in the chest before leaving her to die.
