Crisis in the city: Large parts of Boksburg south without water

The whole of Boksburg South, Parkdene, Parkrand, Cinderella and some other parts of the city have been without water since yesterday, November 7.

It is still unclear the reason behind the lack of water affecting Boksburg.

Ward 32 Clr Marius de Vos said he was alerted about the water issue since yesterday at 1pm.

“I have spoken to an engineer who said apparently Rand Water did not pump the water to the reservoir and finally when they did it caused an airlock which prevented the water from flowing,” he said.

Residents have expressed their anger towards the poor service delivery.

One resident from Libradene said this is most disappointing as the municipality cannot give us a straight answer on what is exactly happening.

Certain schools around Boksburg are also affected.

Parkdene Primary School have sent their learners home due to the problem of having no water.

Rihanna Steenkamp, from Voortrekker High School, said they have started calling the parents of the Grade Eights and Nine learners to come pick them up because there’s no water at the school.

“The situation is crazy we are not sure how we are going to cope the whole day without water. We cannot send the other learners from grade 10 and upwards because they are writing. We hope the water issue will be resolved earlier,” Steenkamp said.

The Advertiser is still waiting for a response from the metro.
