Young girls empowered with rape defensive skills

Would-be rapists and abusers would not have it easy against scores of young girls who were trained in rape defence on October 29.

The young girls are now able to throw a punch and kick when and where it matters most.

NPO Golan Krav Maga International and Combat Girl trained about 70 girls during a girls empowerment day in Anderbolt on Saturday.

The event was held in conjunction with the Family Worship Church in Dawn Park.

The lessons kicked off with an inspirational video and talk before Mandy Hayes and her team demonstrated to the girls how to overcome and defeat those who touch them inappropriately.

Mandy said that rape is not a woman’s problem but a man’s problem and “we are teaching these girls how to stand up for themselves”.

The girls were also taught on how to spot an abuser or abusive partner.
