Book launch: Local author explores the Helderberg tragedy

Multi-talented author Steven Webb is set to launch his third book, titled The Helderberg Conspiracy, Fact or Fiction, at the Christ Church Hall in Boksburg on November 5.

If you are a book fanatic then this is the perfect event for you to attend.

The Helderberg Conspiracy takes a closer look at the various theories that have for years surrounded the Helderberg tragedy.

“For the most part these theories have formed the basis for what has become known as being the truth of the matter,” said Webb.

“I take a closer look at the theories surrounding two fires, regarding a pilot who is said ignored good flying practices, common sense and international law, and theories on what was being carried on the aircraft in order to start these fires as well as other anomalies found within the reports.

“I have therefore endeavoured to provide more a logical and alternative viewpoint to the theories that have for many years been propagated as being the truth,” Webb said.

Some of the books he has written include Ops Medic: A National Serviceman’s Border War and Paramedics.

“Having always been an avid reader, it was a goal of mine to one day write a book that would be of interest to readers.

“This is how I came to write Ops Medic and Paramedics, which are based on my own experiences,” he said.

Webb hopes that his new book will be read by many because he wants to make the point that not everything one hears or reads should be taken for granted, even when it stems from official sources.

The diverse author is an advanced life support paramedic, operating within the health and safety environment at a mine in Zambia.

He holds a university certificate in Disaster Management, a diploma in Management Development, certificates in Food Safety, and Employee Radiation Safety and is currently busy with a Diploma in Environmental Science.

He loves playing golf, reading, writing and building model ships. He lived in Botswana and Swaziland during his childhood days.

According to Webb, writing The Helderberg Conspiracy did pose challenges.

“My greatest challenge with the writing of this book was the thoughts of the families and how they would receive this new information,” said Webb.

“I eventually rationalised that this was of public interest and as long as people are still coming out with affidavits (as late as September 2014) about what the aircraft was carrying and people constantly asking questions, I realised that something needed to be done.

“I also felt that everyone involved in the investigation of this accident needed to be given the credit they deserved. I was also fortunate enough to have had access to many experts in various fields to assist me with this book,” Webb said.

The Helderberg Conspiracy, Fact or Fiction is available on Amazon worldwide and on all major electronic bookstore sites as well as through his website, at www.steven-webb.com or via email at steve@steven-webb.com.
