Ward 21 councillor to fight crime, unemployment in settlements

Frans Ngomane is a newly elected councillor in Ward 21.

Ward 21 is predominantly an informal settlements area where unemployment is a serious issue, hence the new councillor aims to tackle this plight head-on.

The ward comprises Jerusalem, Delmore Kanana informal settlement and parts of Angelo informal settlements.

He said most of these settlements are situated on private land which poses a challenge when it comes to further plans for development.

During a door-to-door campaign, he says, most people said they would even appreciate being given serviced stands so that they can build their own houses.

“Many people also raised the issue of the high rate of crime in informal settlements and we will work hard with the communities to make these settlements secure and safe,” said the recently inducted councillor.

He is a long-time politician who cut his teeth in the unions.

Ngomane, who has been elected on an ANC ticket, extended his appreciation to the masses for the support they showed his party.

He urged those who stayed away from voting in the recent election to exercise their right to vote in future elections.
