Man sentenced to 15 years for killing his brother

Boksburg SAPS detective Det-Sgt Khutso Lefophane, this week secured a conviction in the murder trial of the Cinderella man who was killed by his brother.

The Palm Ridge Magistrates Court, on August 23, handed the 63-year-old Willem Bothma a 15-year prison sentence for killing his brother, Jacobus Bothma.

The murderer received an additional five-year prison sentence for attempted murder.

On February 12, 2014, Willem entered his brother’s bedroom at about 10am, confronted him, whipped out a gun and shot him four times, while his terrified wife was watching, according to the police report.

The victim was rushed to Tambo Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries moments after his arrival. The wife was not injured.

Lefophane was then assigned to the case.

As a result, Willem was named as the suspect, arrested and charged with murder.

He made several court appearances before he was recently found guilty of the murder and sentenced.

A family member told the police that the fatal shooting was apparently sparked by a long-running dispute between the two brothers, over ownership of a house in Cinderella.

q Also on July 26, Lefophane secured a conviction in the murder of the man who was killed with hummer, in the Boksburg industrial area, last year.

The killer will be sentenced on September 2, and he is also likely to spend more time behind bars.
