Suspect arrested for perjury over theft of motor vehicle

A suspect was arrested for perjury on July 22.

The complainant was at a family member’s house in Witfield, on June 24, at about 11.30pm, when he had an argument with someone and drove off in his vehicle.

“He drove through the gate of the premises, injured himself and had damages to his vehicle,” said Boksburg North SAPS communication officer, Capt Juanita Coetzer.

“He went to hospital for treatment and after being discharged from hospital, he went to fetch his vehicle.

“The vehicle had been towed away and the complainant did not want to pay the fees.”

The man proceeded to open a theft of motor vehicle docket.

He was caught out and arrested for perjury.

The investigation is still ongoing.

“This is a serious offence and people must take note of such false complaints, as well as where cases have been reported of theft out of motor vehicles,” said Coetzer.

“Some complainants were also caught laying these false reports, which they did for insurance claims.”
