One of the Boksburg court escapees dies in shoot-out with police

One of the six awaiting trial prisoners who recently escaped from the Boksburg Magistrates Court, died in a shoot-out with the police today.

Police are searching for six dangerous suspects

Acting on information received from members of the public, a task team consisting of detectives descended on the Wattville Hostel and found the pair just before 1pm.

When they saw members of Ekurhuleni Central Police cluster approaching, the brazen suspects opened fire on the officers – prompting the men in blue to retaliate with fire, killing one of the suspects.

The second suspect was re-arrested, and will soon appear in court to face an additional charge of escaping from lawful custody.

The search for the rest of the prisoners continues.

The prisoners escaped without anyone noticing, after two police officers allegedly went out to lunch and left the court’s holding cells unlocked.

The escapees had been arrested for various crimes, including armed robberies, murders, rape and housebreakings.

They urged anyone with information that may lead to the suspects’ arrests to contact their nearest police station, or to call Crime Stop on 08600 10111. -@FanieFLK
