Boksburg go down with a fight in Springs
Boksburg took the short trip to Springs on Saturday, May 21, for their Valke Peregrine League clash with the home side, in a weekend both local teams had tough away assignments.
The well-drilled home side, who stand second on the log behind high-flying Brakpan, secured victory by a 38-22 margin against Marcell Fourie’s men, who’ve endured a recent rough patch in their league run following their flying start out of the blocks.
They will be looking to get back to winning ways when their face NWU as they return to their iconic Prince George Park home ground this Saturday.
Adriaan van der Nest continued his fine form as he along with his skipper Travis Howell and Dendre Strydom crossed the whitewash for their side, with kicker PJ Beukes adding the extras from two conversions and a penalty.
The Owls’ overall performance was made more commendable as they played the entire second-half with 14 men following JP Joubert’s red card moments before the half-time break.
“We were outplayed,” Fourie stated candidly.
“We were never in the game, we had a red card five minutes before half-time, Springs dominated the line-outs that gave them great ball and we were on the back foot from the start,” he explained.
Boksburg sit fourth on the table following eight matches with 24 points – six ahead of the fifth-placed East Rand United.
