Two die in another shack fire

A man and his girlfriend were burnt beyond recognition when their shack, in Reiger Park, caught fire on Tuesday night, May 3.

According to Sgt Mashudu Phathela of the Reiger Park SAPS, Frederick Zini (50) and Delaine Kiewet (40) were asleep inside the shack when it caught fire at about 11.30am, presumably from a stove.

“One of the people who were sleeping in the family’s main house saw smoke coming from the couple’s shack, and then realised that the building was on fire.

“The person called both the police and firefighters, but by that time it was too late.”

It is believed that the fire may have been generated by a stove.

An inquest docket has been opened.
