Police, EMS forge stronger bond with Angelo residents

Members of the Ekurhuleni Emergency and Disaster Management Service along with the Boksburg police recently visited Angelo informal settlement.

The purpose was to hold discussions with residents about crime issues and emergency services.

The meeting came weeks after Angelo residents attacked emergency service personnel, police vehicles and a fire brigade in separate incidents.

The meeting’s prime objective was to address the attack on emergency services and to build a strong working relationship between emergency services and the residents of Angelo.

Residents confirmed they were committed to working with the police in tackling crime and disorder, including the attacks on emergency services.

Those who attended the meeting also promised to mobilise every community member to stand together against criminals and the people who are chasing away the essential services, which are desperately needed in the area.

The police admitted that Angelo informal settlement has become a murder hot spot, and urged residents to work with them to identify those responsible for the perpetual killings and attempted murders.

On questions as to why emergency personnel at times arrive late at the scene, Ekurhuleni Emergency Services’ David Tshabalala said the attacks have impacted on the ambulance service’s ability to respond efficiently.
