No bail for Boksburg man implicated in child pornography

The Boksburg Magistrate Court refused to grant bail to a local car salesman implicated in an alleged child pornography syndicate.

The 39-year-old Atlasville resident, who is charged with the possession, manufacturing and distribution of child pornography, appeared in court on April 11.

He was arrested on September 30 last year at his workplace, after police established that he had stored child pornography on his laptop.

The suspect complained of prison conditions and pleaded with the court to be released on bail.

However, Magistrate Emmanuel Magampa stated that poor conditions in prison were not a reason to release suspects from custody.

The Women and Men Against Child Abuse (WMACA) spokesperson Germaine Vogel applauded Magistrate Magampa for denying bail.

Vogel said they were pleased at the manner in which the court proceedings were conducted.

“Firstly the court prioritised this case by placing it first on the roll and secondly we applaud the magistrate for his arguments in denying bail,” said Vogel.

The case was postponed to June 27 to allow the state to further its investigations and to centralise all the charges in other cases against the suspect.

He faces alleged charges from other cases opened in Witbank.
