Dawn Park SAPS in hot water over dagga plants

The Dawn Park Police Station has once again come under fire.

This follows a recent article published on February 26, under the heading “SAPS in the firing line”, in which community members voiced their grievances about the Dawn Park SAPS during a crime meeting with the mayor of Ekurhuleni.

Community members alleged that the station is failing to serve the community of Van Dyk Park and other areas falling under the precinct.

This time they have apparently failed to properly address a complaint about dagga plants being grown near the Windmill Park taxi rank.

According to a Dawn Park CPF member Elvin Foster, he was notified by a woman who stays in Windmill Park Extension 18 about the plants.

“I notified the Dawn Park Police station on February 25 about the matter but they seemed uninterested,” Foster said.

He said police eventually did visit the site to uproot the plants but some were left behind.

Matome Mokobane, a Windmill Park CPF member, said not much work was done to clear the area.

“Police officers who attended to the complaint did not do a complete job because some plants are still visible”.

Foster expressed his disappointment in the Dawn Park SAPS for not doing a proper job.

“It’s like we are fighting a losing battle. The CPF and police officers are there to look out for the community’s safety and well-being, but it seems that the Dawn Park SAPS are the ones dragging their feet,” said Foster.

The Advertiser is waiting for comment from the Dawn Park SAPS.
