Police cannot confirm shooting was ‘drug-related’

The Gauteng Provincial Police could not be drawn to comment on whether or not yesterday's shooting near Presley's in North Rand Road involved drugs.

This follows several social media posts suggesting that the shooting was “a drug deal gone wrong”.

Gauteng police spokesperson Col Lungelo Dlamini told the Advertiser this morning (January 27) that the motive for the shooting has not yet been established.

“I can only confirm that the man who was airlifted to hospital is in ICU but I can’t comment on whether or not the incident was drug related.”

Dlamini hoped the motive will be established by later today.

No one has been arrested.

ER24 reported that paramedics and other services attended to a shooting incident in Boksburg North, yesterday.
On arrival, paramedics found two men in a vehicle.

“Upon assessment of the men believed to be in their 20’s it was found that one had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

“Sadly there was nothing that could be done for the patient as he had succumbed to his injuries,” said ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing.

She said the second person, who was also shot, was airlifted to hospital in critical condition.
