Baby locked in vehicle at mall, woman arrested

A woman was arrested for locking her baby in her vehicle at the East Rand Mall parking area, on Saturday, December 26.

Sgt Lorraine Swart and Const Clement Komane from the Boksburg SAPS were patrolling in the East Rand Mall area when they were called to investigate at around 9.45am.

According to the Boksburg North SAPS communications officer, Lieut Juanita Coetzer, when they arrived in the parking area, they found a baby locked in a vehicle.

The mall management called the driver of the vehicle.

“The driver, a woman, arrived and unlocked it,” said Coetzer.

“The Boksburg North SAPS personnel checked out the baby and arrested the woman.”

She was taken to Boksburg North SAPS.

The father of the baby was informed and the baby was handed over to the father.

“This is a period when we are experiencing extreme heat conditions,” said Coetzer.

“The community must take note not to lock their children and their animals in their vehicles.

“They are your responsibility so you must take care of them.” – @IschkeBoksburg
