Numerous water leaks plague Boksburg

A main supply water pipe had to be dug up on the corner of Commissioner Street and Short Road, after it was found that the pipe had a major water leak.

According to the anonymous complainant, it took more than a week for the problem to be fixed.

She first noticed that the pipe must have burst when she saw a stream of water flowing down Commissioner Street on November 18.

“A number of businesses in the street reported the problem, but it was five days later (November 23) before contractors were on site,” said the complainant.

“However, they just dug a hole where the leak was, without repairing anything or even securing the hole, which is situated very close to the road where motorists park their vehicles.”

Apparently, some businesses in Commissioner Street had to function with very little and at times without any water.

According to the complainant, on Friday, November 27, contractors were back on site, eventually repairing the leak and filling the hole.

“The water pressure is still very low and sometimes there isn’t any water in the pipe,” the woman said.

The Advertiser escalated the matter to Ekurhuleni Metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe, and is awaiting a response.

The following water leaks have also been reported:

* Corner Paul Avenue and Odendaal Road, Dayanglen (apparently the water leak has been in existence for about 10 months).

* Pavement of 7 Third Street, Boksburg North (the water meter has allegedly been leaking since August this year and was reported to the municipality on August 5).

* Graniet Road, Jet Park, Boksburg (burst pipe leaking for almost two weeks).

* Pavement of 109 First Street, Boksburg North (the water meter has allegedly been leaking for the past three weeks).
