Kempton Park halts CBC’s momentum

Kempton Park inflicted a first loss on CBC Old Boys in their high-profile Premier League clash, in Boksburg, on Sunday, October 18.

The visitors ended CBC’s winning run with a convincing seven-wicket triumph.

CBC had made an impressive start to the new campaign before coming unstuck against the Johan Fourie-led Kempton side, sweeping Tembisa aside in their opening game before taking care of Actonville Spurs the following week.

The home side was bowled out for 120 runs after 30.4 overs, following a disappointing showing with bat in-hand from Shaun Liebisch’s men.

Kempton’s Tadraiz Shamsi proved a thorn to CBC, finishing with 3/22 and two maidens in his 10 overs with the ball. Grant Thomson added his share of damage to the hosts, with his two wickets in five overs, including one maiden.

CBC opening bastman Wesley Coulentianos finished as the top runs scorer for his side with 25 but it was Kempton’s Wesley Marshall who stole the show with the bat with his unbeaten 68 to all but end the contest.

Thomson also finished unbeaten with 21.

Kempton’s lost wickets included Casey Arnold, Gareth Hart and Jurie Snyman.

Kempton will travel to Benoni next for a meeting with Spurs; CBC is to make the longer journey to Springs for the battle of the Old Boys.

Both fixtures are scheduled for Sunday, November 1. – @SabeloBoksburg
