EMPD nabs hijacking gang terrorising Boksburg

Three men were arrested shortly after a hijacking incident in Boksburg on September 26.

The men hijacked an unidentified couple’s VW Polo at gunpoint at around at 6am, in the Boksburg CBD.

Following the activation of  a tracking system of the hijacked vehicle, EMPD Intervention Unit members tracked the vehicle down to  Roodekop in Germiston whereupon three suspects were arrested.

The hijacked black Polo was found parked in Sunflower Street in Roodekop at around 06.30am.

“On approaching the vehicle, three occupants hastily alighted and bolted on foot. All the suspects were apprehended after attempting to escape by scaling a few fences in the area,” said EMPD spokesperson Wilfred Kgasago.

Kgasago said  a 9mm pistol with its serial numbers filed off, four handbags, three purses and twelve cellphones were found in the hijacked vehicle.

The trio admitted that they were robbing people in the Boksburg and Germiston area.

The three suspects, aged between 20 and 30, were booked in at the Alberton Police Station on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle,  possession of an unlicensed firearm and suspected stolen property.

They are expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court on Monday, September 28.
