Fence around collapsed mineshaft stolen
The giant hole on the corner of Main Reef and Wit Deep roads still poses a threat to the community.
This is after the fence that was erected by the metro, to cordon off the area as a safety measure, has been stolen.
The Advertiser reported last year on this hole that appears to be an old collapsed mine shaft.
Concerned citizens, including staff at the nearby Balmoral College and residents of the Jerusalem informal settlement, have again insisted that the metro needs to take action immediately and not merely erect another fence around the gaping hole.
The hole has been cordoned off while the metro conducts investigations into who should be held liable for it.
