Let there be light in Ekurhuleni

Lighting up households and streets is one of the Ekurhuleni's Metro's many efforts to improve the lives of citizens and better the living standard of its residents.

This is according to Themba Gadebe, metro spokesperson, who said the metro recently revealed its plans to install power connections on 8 626 stands, at the estimated cost of R239-million, in this financial year.

The pleas for power connections were made by residents during the Integrated Development Plans (IDP) and Imbizo processes.

Two of the suburbs within the greater Boksburg that have been targeted for this project are Villa Liza Extension (2487 connections/stands estimated at R25-million) and Villa Liza Extension 3 (614 connections/stands estimated at R25-million).

The MMC for Water and Sanitation, Clr Doctor Xhakaza, who conducted the official electrification ceremony at Chief Albert Luthuli Park, pleaded with the community to assist in fighting vandalism, cable theft and illegal connections.

“In order for the municipality to continue delivering services to its residents, we need to work together in protecting municipal infrastructure; this starts by reporting any form of suspicious behaviour through the call centre,” he said.

Construction is also underway in Palm Ridge Extension 9, Esselen Park Extension 3, Eden Park West Extension 1, Chief Albert Luthuli Extension 6B, Thinasonke Extension 4 and Langaville Extension 10.
