Church saves the needy from the cold winter

To help the needy fend off the cold winter, CRC Christian Church visited Angelo informal settlement to donate blankets and clothes to the residents.

In partnership with Barloworld, the church donated 900 blankets to help poor people deal with the great chill.

The blankets were dealt out on June 27, at Tswelopele Pre-School and Crèche.

According to one of the church members, Janessa du Toit, the donation is part of the church’s community services, where members, in partnership with sponsors, organise charity projects to reach out to the needy.

“This donation was in response to the call made during one of our church service to help underprivileged people in our communities,” said du Toit.

The visitors also handed out soup and rolls to both adults and children living in dire conditions in the settlement.

Recipients of the blankets and food make a living by scavenging recyclable materials from the illegal dumpsite adjacent to the residential settlement, while children roam the streets looking for something to eat. – @FanieFLK
