Memorable procession held in honour of young accident victims

In only a few hours, Boksburg North CPF members organised a memorable tribute on Sunday, June 7, in honour of one of their beloved member and his life partner who lost their lives in an accident over the weekend.

The couple, Jacques Day (24) and Jacqueline Roos (21) from Bonearo Park (Kempton Park), died in the early hours of June 7, when the vehicle they were travelling in exploded.

News of the procession spread like a wildfire.

Yesterday afternoon, over a 100 mourners joined in a meaningful procession to pay respect to the victims.

Members from various CPFs on the East Rand, Saber Tactical, EMPD, ER24, Netcare 911, and family and friends of Day and Roos joined in the procession.

The procession commenced at 3pm from the NG Kerk Impala Park. Motorists drove in a convoy through Boksburg North Sector 1, which is the area Day used to patrol, and ended where the accident took place in Benoni.

A white cross, with a photo of the victims and their names on it, was erected and brightly colored flowers were laid down.

At the cross is evidence that something horrific happened – a badly burnt grass patch with small, now useless, car parts scattered on the scene.

The lamp post against which the vehicle collided, now torn in two, is also a reminder of the tragedy of SA’s road deaths.

Boksburg North CPF Sector 1 chairperson, Denise Curry, said a few touching words about Day.

“He was such a funny man and used to light up the room,” said Curry.

“He will be sorely missed.”

Day served Sector 1 for 17 months. He was the head patroller for Lacomo Lifestyle Estate (the old Clearwater Estate).

The areas he covered included Impala Park, Witkoppie Ridge, Bartlett, Bardene, Atlasville, Lacomo Lifestyle Estate, Beyers Park and Bonearo Park.

His unique identification number was ‘LE4’.

“This is a number that will never be assigned to anyone else because this number – LE4 – will always belong to Jacques,” said Curry. –@IschkeBoksburg
