Referee stops CBC’s premier league match

Ill-discipline and constant off-field interruptions forced the referee to halt the Easterns Premier League clash between CBC Old Boys and Birch Acres on Saturday, May 30.

The match, which was hosted by CBC, was at a 2-all stalemate when the official abandoned it deep into the second-half.

CBC forward David de Oliveira had netted a brace for the home side.

Asked what had transpired, CBC coach Glenn Brierley said: “The match was abandoned due to Birch Acres and their supporters being unruly.

“The supporters came on to the field, refusing to move away from the technical area, while their goalkeeper refused to leave the pitch after receiving two yellow cards.

“It carried on until the referee couldn’t take it anymore.”

Both teams are set to attend a disciplinary hearing at the Boksburg City Stadium on Wednesday evening, June 10, where a decision regarding a replay will also be released.

Birch Acres coach could not be reached for comment.

Both teams occupy the seventh and eighth spots on the log with the same amount of points (13) after nine games, with Birch Acres leading with a superior goal difference. – @SabeloBoksburg
