Four months in prison for stealing shoe polish

The following cases were heard in the Boksburg Magistrate's Court:

* An underage boy from Reiger Park had his sentenced postponed for a year, subject to a number of conditions, after being found guilty of theft.

On June 6, last year, the boy unlawfully and intentionally took car keys, a gate remote and an asthma pump from his victim, at the Boksburg Civic Centre. He was subsequently arrested and found guilty on February 19 and sentenced on May 28.

He has no previous convictions.

The Magistrate set the following conditions:

– That he attends a life skills programme.

– Attends a drug awareness programme.

– Agrees to the supervision of a probation officer for a period of one year and that a quarterly progress report regarding his contact be submitted to the court.

Magistrate Ryan van Haarte presided and and prosecutor Busi Mofokeng represented the state.

* Rodeen Loots (36), of Windmill Park, pleaded guilty and was found guilty on May 7, of theft.

On April 25, she stole a pack of biltong and four hair products from Checkers Hypermarket.

Loots has two previous conviction for theft, committed in 1998 and 2000.

She was sentenced to six months, wholly suspended for five years.

Magistrate Ryan van Haarte presided and and prosecutor Busi Mofokeng represented the state.

* Victor Lukhuleni pleaded guilty and was found guilty of theft, on May 8 .

On April 29, he stole 18 tins of Kiwi shoe polish worth R461.82. He has a previous conviction for theft.

He was sentenced to four months in prison on May 27, and was also ruled unfit to possess a firearm.

Magistrate Hans Havenga presided and prosecutor Angeline Mooiman represented the state.

* Leonard Chuene (37) and Jerry Makhubung (35) were both sent to prison on May 29.

The duo faced three charges committed on February 15, when they unlawfully entered the premises of GO Technologies..

They were charged with trespassing, malicious of damage to property and attempting to break open a security gate.

They were found guilty only of trespassing and acquitted on the other two charges.

They were each sentenced to R1 500 or three months in prison.

Magistrate Emmanuel Magampa presided and Angeline Mooiman represented the state.

* Ayanda John Nkosi (29), of Villa Lisa, pleaded not guilty on April 24, but was found guilty and sentenced on June 1.

He was charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, robbery with aggravating circumstances and malicious damage to property.

On August 27, last year, Nkosi entered the premises of Usian Dassavor and Amir Shahzana and damaged bread, cool-drinks and other items by throwing them on the floor and trampling on them.

He was found guilty of a malicious damage to property charge and was sentenced to a fine of R3 000 or six months in jail.

Magistrates Sijren Harichand presided and prosecutor Leon Naude represented the state.
