Man wrongfully arrested for Meyiwa’s murder is suing for R10m

It has been reported that the man who was falsely accused of killing former Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa in October last year is suing police minister Nathi Nhleko and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) for R10 million.

Former Buccleuch resident, Meyiwa, was shot and killed at his girlfriend’s home in Vosloorus, in October last year.

Following the release of a police identikit, Zamokuhle Mbatha was believed to have been linked to the murder and was arrested in November last year. He was released 13 days later and the charges were dropped.

Mbatha is now reportedly suing the police minister for R7.5 million, which includes R5 million for defamation and R2.5 million for unlawful and wrongful arrest, and he is further suing the NPA for R2.5 million.
