Owls slump to defeat against Brakpan

The Brakpan Rugby Club scored 17 unanswered points in the first stanza, en route to their 36-10 victory over local rivals Boksburg Rugby Club, on a chilly evening at Prince George Park, on Friday, May 8.

The Valke Peregrine League clash between the two saw midfielder JP Joubert and Willem Botes grab the consolation scores, as their side was condemned to a heavy defeat.

Asked about his thoughts on the game, Owls coach Stephen Nel remained upbeat.

“We did well; we played with a lot of confidence and tackled very well. We can be proud of our performance,” he said.

The trainer also explained how things went pear-shaped for his side, against their cross-town rivals.

“We could not secure our own ball in the line-outs and scrums,” he said.

“That put us on the back foot and we will have to work on it; we have a lot of work before we play them again.”

The visitors dotted down on six occasions (converting three), with Gido Horn and Thinus Ueckermann each grabbing a brace.

Sweef Potgieter and Kyle Hilton also registered their names on the scoreboard, with their respective five-pointers.

Scorers:

Boksburg: tries: JP Joubert, Willem Botes.

Brakpan: tries: Gido Horn (2), Thinus Ueckermann (2), Sweef Potgieter, Kyle Hilton.

Conversions: Horn (3). – @SabeloBoksburg
