ABSA Premier League

Saturday, May 9. Chippa United v Kaizer Chiefs, Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. Start time: 3pm

Having broken Mamelodi Sundowns’ league points record of 65 by beating Sundowns, the Amakhosi, who currently sit on 66 points, will look to extend their own record with a win over a Chippa outfit struggling for survival at the base of the log.
Sundowns, who’ve cemented their runner-up spot ahead of Orlando Pirates and Bidvest Wits, set the mark of 65 points last term – the highest since the PSL became a 16-team league at the start of 2002/03 – as they powered their way to their sixth League title.

My prediction: Chippa United 0-3 Kaizer Chiefs

Other ABSA Premier League matches to look out for this weekend:

Ajax Cape Town v Orlando Pirates

Bidvest Wits v Platinum Stars

Mamelodi Sundowns v University of Pretoria

English Premier League

Sunday, May 10. Chelsea v Liverpool, Stamford Bridge. Start time: 5pm

Jose Mourinho has brought back the English title to Stamford Bridge. The Blues had to wait a long time to hoist the title having last won it in 2010. Their clash with Liverpool remains the standout fixture in England this weekend despite it being a dead rubber – for one side at least. With the title secured with three games to spare, it’ll be interesting to see how Chelsea line-up against Brendon Rodgers’ side who are chasing bitter rivals Manchester United for the last Champions League spot. The Reds trail United by four points, but could fall further behind should United win or draw their battle with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

My prediction: Chelsea 1-1 Liverpool

Other English Premier League matches to look out for this weekend:

Saturday, May 9: Crystal Palace v Manchester United

Sunday, May 10: Manchester City v Queens Park Rangers

La Liga

Unlike most leagues, the race for the title in Spain is far from over.
The battle for the best team in La Liga between old foes Barcelona and Real Madrid is as hot as ever with only two points separating the two.
Lionel Messi-led Barca enjoy the slender lead with 87 points after 35 games and three more remaining.
Should the two sides finish tied on points, Cristiano Ronaldo-influenced Madrid will be crowned champions courtesy of their superior head-to-head record this campaign.

Saturday, May 9. Barcelona v Real Sociedad, Camp Nou. Start time: 6pm.  My prediction: Barca 2-1 Sociedad

Real Madrid v Valencia, Santiago Bernabeu. Start time: 8pm. My prediction: Madrid 2-1 Valencia
