Women’s Desk to tackle social problems

The Reiger Park SAPS, in conjunction with the CPF, have recently launched a sub forum for women residing within their policing precinct.

The precinct includes Reiger Park, Ramaphosa, Delmore Gardens, Delmore Park, Delmore and Ulana informal settlements.

This CPF sub forum, called the Women’s Desk, currently consists of 34 members, from various ethnic groups within the different communities.

The function of the Women’s Desk is to deal with social issues in their communities.

According to Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson Mashudu Phathela, the forum’s duties include creating awareness and educating people on child abuse, domestic violence, teenage pregnancy, drug and alcohol abuse among children and women, sexual assault, as well as reaching out to the less fortunate and encouraging young people to prioritise education.

They will also focus on encouraging the women of their communities to become actively involved in the fight against crime and violence and to build a culture of learning, tolerance and respect for all.
