Foreign-owned shops in Boksburg CBD shut down

In a bid to protect their stock and their lives, scores of foreign-owned shops in the Boksburg CBD closed their doors on Thursday, April 16.

This follows the outbreak of attacks on foreigners across the country.

According to a spokesperson for the Boksburg SAPS, Lieut Kwendzakwakhe Ngobese, shop owners in the CBD and Angelo informal settlement told the police that they are closing their doors in fear of being attacked.

Although police have discovered that no threats were made against local foreign-owned shops, shop owners told Ngobese that they feared for their safety.

This comes in the wake of recent unrest in KwaZulu-Natal and parts of Gauteng, where foreigners have been attacked and their stock looted.
