Weigh-in completed, all set for Stand and Deliver
Golden Gloves’ eagerly awaited Stand and Deliver fight night’s build-up formalities concluded with the official weigh-in at Emperors Palace on Friday, March 13.
The decorated fight card, which consists of four 12-round title fights, kicks-off this year’s boxing season and is headlined by the opinion-splitting clash between Ryno ‘The Lion’ Liebenberg and Thomas ‘Tommy Gun’ Oosthuizen for the vacant IBO Light Heavyweight Title.
Co-headlining the event will be a fight for the WBA African Middleweight Title contested between Dowayne Combrink and Giovanni Bushby.
Ghana international Richard Commey, who will entertain Thompson Mokwana for the Commonwealth Lightweight belt, comfortably made the weight limit unlike his opponent, who failed his initial attempt.
Mokwana weighed-in at 61.25kg, surpassing the 61.24kg limit. Determined to make the cut, the boxer removed his shorts but still failed to make it inside the limit. That prompted Mokwana to return for a third attempt after a few minutes, which proved successful.
Light heavyweights Liebenberg and Oosthuizen had no problems in making it inside their 79.38kg limit, hitting the scale at 79kg and 79.35kg respectively.
