Local kickboxing academy excels in Primrose

The Sabre Tooth Kickboxing Academy excelled during two recent tournaments.

Two of the academy’s members won their respective fights at the Fight Stars Tournament, held in Primrose, in February.

Bantamweight Martin Joubert made light work of his opponent with a devastating head kick, just nine seconds after the bell, to secure a KO first round win.

Sheldon Victor also emerged victorious in the first round of his fight, via a guillotine choke after 28 seconds.

The academy added to their medals a month later when Matthew du Plessis won gold and bronze, along with the Fight of the Night Award, at the GFC Championships, which took place on March 7.

Jarrod Crook, Calvin Jonck, Nackita Peek and Christene Alesar won silver medals.

“We’re very proud of our fighters who did really well,” said Cliff Leeson, the academy’s sensei.
