RUGBY: Owls feast on friendly ‘prey’

The Boksburg Rugby Club completed a clean sweep of victories against three opponents, in Nigel, on Saturday, March 7 as their preparations for the new rugby season gained momentum.

Benoni, Sasol and Springs all fell victim to the Owls in a perfect outing for the PG Park side.

The first team beat Sasol 22-12, but it was Boksburg’s u-21 side who sent out the biggest statement on the day, with a 38-10 thumping of Springs.

The second and third teams faced Benoni’s first and second teams, respectively.

The second team emerged as 18-12 victors, with the third side triumphing with 14-12, to stamp their dominance on their local rivals.

“Our teams are all still trying to gel, but they played really well – much better than last week,” said the Owls’ chairman Sean Scheepers, referring to the Delmas Rugby Day where Boksburg won two out of four matches on February 28.

Any u-19 to 21 rugby players looking to join the club may visit the Boksburg Rugby Club’s training sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 6.30pm, at their Prince George Park home ground.

The Owls’ kick off their league campaign on April 11.
