Take note of the following tips to be safe on the road
The Boksburg North SAPS provided the following road safety tips for the community.
Safety in your vehicle:
* When you plan to go on a journey, ensure that your vehicle is in a good condition.
* Make sure you have sufficient fuel in your vehicle.
* Always lock the doors and windows.
* Do not stop at remote places.
* Park your vehicle in a well-lit area.
* Limit your trips at night.
* Minor accidents might be staged by suspects to force you to stop.
*When hi-jacked, leave your vehicle and possessions and do not resist. Your life is more valuable than your possessions.
Safety when parking or driving your vehicle:
* Park your vehicle where there are security guards.
* Do not leave your firearm in your vehicle.
* Make sure all doors and windows are closed.
* Put all your valuables in the boot before travelling.
* Close your windows when driving through the city.
* Do not use your cell phone while driving or while waiting at a robot.
* Become familiar with the route before travelling.
* Do not leave your handbag, laptop and cell phone on the seat or anywhere visible in your vehicle.
* Remove the radio face and GPS when parking your vehicle.
* Try to fit an alarm or anti-hijack system in your vehicle.
Avoid aggressive driving behavior:
* Do not follow a vehicle too closely.
* Do no cut in and out traffic.
* Always signal when turning or changing lanes.
* Do not talk on your cell phone.
* Do not display or use a weapon.
* Do not display obscene gestures.
* Do not react to provocation.
* Stay away from aggressive drivers.
* Avoid eye contact.
* Do not use your hooter.
* Do not flash your lights.
* Do not block lanes.
