Boksburg Rugby Club gets 2015 underway

The Boksburg Rugby Club kicked-off 2015 with a trip to the Delmas Rugby Day friendly tournament, on Saturday, February 28.

The club rugby festival saw all four the club’s sides in action, winning two and losing two.

The senior and second sides were both in action against Secunda, with the seniors going down 23-9 and the latter grabbing a 10-0 win.

The third side also registered a win, but against Bronkhorstspruit, in a close 14-12 cliffhanger.

Boksburg’s u-21s were edged out 14-12 by neighbours Kempton Park, to hand the club a 50 per cent success rate.

“It was our first game, so we used it as a trial run to give all the players a chance to show their skills,” said club chairman Sean Scheepers.

“Results are not top priority at the moment; we’re focusing on fitness and team chemistry although we would’ve loved to have some of the results go our way.

“It’s exciting times with new and young players joining the club.

“We are looking forward to see what these guys can offer and I’m sure we’re going to be a force to be reckoned with within the next two seasons.”

The Owls continue with their pre-season preparations this weekend, with a trip to Nigel for a friendly tournament before hosting Wits University on Saturday, March 14.

Any u-19 and 21 rugby players looking to join a club may visit the Boksburg Rugby Club’s training sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 6.30pm, at their Prince George Park home ground.

The Owls’ kick-off their league campaign on April 11.
